A robot bartender can mean three very different things: an enclosed robot bar with two arms and over a hundred bottles above it, a countertop cocktail machine that doses from pods or bottles, or a humanoid robot running bartending software. They differ in price, speed, how much they impress guests and how much space they need. This guide compares the options so a bar, hotel, venue or event company can pick the right format before asking for quotes.

Three kinds of robot bartender
1. Robot arm bar (enclosed station)
One or two industrial robot arms work inside a counter or enclosure. Bottles hang overhead or sit in dispensers, and the arms pick up a shaker, dose, shake or stir and place the glass at a pickup point. Guests order on an app or screen. This is the most theatrical format and usually the fastest at volume, but it needs floor space, installation and a service contract.
2. Automated cocktail machine
A cabinet or countertop unit pumps measured amounts from bottles or pods into the glass. There is no arm to watch, so it is less of a show, but it is compact, cheaper and quick to set up. It suits hotel rooms, small bars, offices and event stands where consistency matters more than spectacle.
3. Humanoid robot with bartending software
A general-purpose humanoid robot behind a normal bar picks up bottles, detects the glass, pours and talks to guests. Software such as RoboTender provides the bartending skills. It is the strongest attention-grabber for trade fairs and hotel lobbies, and the robot can be used for other tasks when it is not pouring. It is slower than a dedicated robot bar.

Which format fits your venue?
| Venue | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| High-volume bar, cruise ship, stadium | Robot arm bar | Throughput and a permanent show |
| Hotel lobby or rooftop bar | Humanoid with RoboTender, or a compact robot bar | Guest experience, conversation, moderate volume |
| Trade fair or brand activation | Humanoid with RoboTender Basic or Standard, or rental | Attention at the stand, easy to move |
| Small bar, office, hotel rooms | Cocktail machine | Low cost, small footprint, consistent drinks |
| Restaurant wanting a signature drink | Cocktail machine or RoboTender Basic | One drink, done the same way every time |
For one-off events, renting is often cheaper than buying; see rent or buy a robot for trade fairs.
What a robot bartender costs
Makr Shakr and Richtech quote per project, so there is no public list price. For the humanoid route, the cost is the robot plus the software licence. As an example, a Unitree G1 Edu Standard lists at about €37,763 and RoboTender Standard at about €7,232, so the pair starts around €45,000 at list price before hands, set-up, delivery and VAT (Robots Europa, October 2026).
| Cost line | What to ask |
|---|---|
| Hardware | Robot, enclosure or counter, dispensers, glass washer if needed |
| Software and licences | One-off licence or yearly fee, updates, recipe changes |
| Installation | Electricity, water and drainage, ventilation, floor loading |
| Integration | POS, payment terminal, app ordering |
| Service | Response time, cleaning routines, spare parts, remote support |
| Consumables | Spirits and mixers are the same; check if special pods or cartridges are required |
Alcohol, hygiene and safety in Europe
- Licensing and age checks: the venue keeps its alcohol licence obligations. A robot cannot check ID on its own; plan who verifies age, especially with app ordering.
- Responsible serving: set limits per order or per guest where local law requires them.
- Food hygiene: surfaces, tubes and shakers must follow HACCP cleaning routines. Ask how long daily cleaning takes.
- Machine safety: enclosed robot bars and humanoids near guests need a risk assessment and CE marking for the installed system. RoboTender includes a safety stop when a hand enters the work zone.
- Staff: a robot bartender still needs a person to restock, clean and handle guests.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a robot bartender cost?
Robot arm bars such as Makr Shakr and humanoid drink robots such as Richtech ADAM are priced on request. RoboTender software lists from about €2,260 (Basic) to €38,890 (Pro) at Robots Europa, plus the price of a compatible humanoid robot.
How many drinks can a robot bartender make per hour?
Makr Shakr rates Toni at 80+ drinks per hour. Humanoid robot bartenders are slower and suit events and lobbies rather than peak bar volume.
Can a robot bartender make real cocktails?
Yes. Robot arm bars shake and stir multi-ingredient recipes, and RoboTender Standard and Pro handle recipes with several spirits and mixers.
Is a robot bartender legal in Europe?
Yes, but the venue remains responsible for its alcohol licence, age checks and food hygiene, and the installed system needs a safety assessment.
Can I rent a robot bartender for an event?
Many suppliers and event companies rent robot bars and humanoid robots for trade fairs, weddings and corporate events. Compare the rental fee with the number of events you plan.
