Unitree Go2 Air vs Go2 Pro vs Lite3 Pro: Which Robot Dog Should You Buy?

Unitree Go2 Air, Go2 Pro and Deep Robotics Lite3 Pro robot dogs compared

Anyone shopping for a robot dog in Europe quickly narrows the list to three names: Unitree Go2 Air, Unitree Go2 Pro and Deep Robotics Lite3 Pro. All three weigh between 13 and 15 kg and can be carried by one person. Where they really differ is software access, connectivity and the kind of owner they were designed for.

We built this comparison around one question: are you buying for curiosity and demos, for content and teaching, or for research? Prices vary by package and accessories, so each model links to its current quote page.

The question that separates these three robot dogs

The Go2 Air and Go2 Pro share the same body: roughly 70 x 31 x 40 cm, about 15 kg, a 4D LiDAR, a wide-angle HD camera and an 8000 mAh battery. The Pro adds more speed and climbing ability plus 4G, voice interaction and smart side-following.

The Lite3 Pro comes from a different manufacturer with a different philosophy. Deep Robotics positions it for universities and research teams, with ROS support, joint-level data access and a separate perception computer. It has fewer ready-made party tricks than the Go2, but it is far more open to developers.

Who is the Unitree Go2 Air for?

Unitree Go2 Air is the entry model of the Go2 family. It jumps, shakes hands, sits and dances, and its 4D LiDAR lets it detect and avoid obstacles. Block-based graphical programming in the app is enough to teach children and teenagers the basics of coding.

The Air does not include a 4G module, voice commands, music playback or the ISS 2.0 system that follows its owner. Secondary development is closed, and the handheld remote is sold separately.

Best for: tech enthusiasts, science centres, school open days and teams meeting a robot dog for the first time.

Who is the Unitree Go2 Pro for?

Unitree Go2 Pro adds performance and connectivity to the same body: up to 3.5 m/s, 40-degree slopes and around 8 kg of payload. The headline features are 4G, voice interaction and ISS 2.0 side-following, which let the robot follow its handler without a remote and stream video over longer distances.

The Pro still does not include full SDK access. Teams that want to write code should look at Go2 EDU, which opens secondary development and supports an additional compute module.

A practical European note: if you film events or public spaces with the robot’s camera, footage showing identifiable people falls under GDPR. Plan signage and data retention just as you would for any camera.

Who is the Deep Robotics Lite3 Pro for?

Deep Robotics Lite3 Pro measures 61 x 37 x 45 cm and weighs 12.9 kg. It carries 4 kg, climbs 40-degree slopes, clears 18 cm obstacles and, according to the manufacturer, covers up to 3.4 km per charge.

What sets it apart is the architecture. Motion control runs on an RK3588 computer and perception on an NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX. It runs Ubuntu 20.04 and can switch between ROS 1 Noetic and ROS 2 Foxy. The Motion SDK exposes joint torque, velocity and position, and USB, HDMI and Ethernet ports make it easy to add cameras or LiDAR. Robots Europa currently lists delivery in 2 to 4 weeks.

Best for: university labs working on legged control, reinforcement learning and sim-to-real transfer, and teams developing robot software.

What about professional inspection?

None of these three is a professional industrial inspection robot. Substations, chemical plants and tunnels call for thermal cameras, gas sensors, IP-rated enclosures and longer runtime. For that job, look at the enterprise Go2 ENT, industrial platforms such as Deep Robotics X30 Pro, or the wider inspection robot range.

Choosing by use case

1Home, hobby and tech curiosity

Go2 Air. The preset tricks and graphical programming are plenty for a first robot dog.

2Content creation, events and marketing

Go2 Pro. 4G, voice and follow mode make filming and live demos much easier.

3Schools and introductory robotics

Go2 Air or Pro if block coding is enough; Go2 EDU or Lite3 Pro if students will work in Python and ROS.

4University and research labs

Lite3 Pro for its open ROS stack and joint-level data. Teams already in the Unitree ecosystem often choose Go2 EDU.

5Industrial inspection

Enterprise and industrial models rather than any of these three.

Before you order

Confirm whether the remote is included, how many batteries you need and what the warranty covers. Within the EU there are no customs duties when buying from Robots Europa in Dublin, but lithium batteries still ship under dangerous goods rules, which can affect delivery time. Our guide to buying a robot in Europe covers VAT, CE marking and shipping.

Frequently asked questions

What is the main difference between the Go2 Air and Go2 Pro?

The Pro is faster, climbs steeper slopes and adds 4G, voice interaction and the ISS 2.0 follow system. The body, LiDAR and battery are the same.

Can I program the Go2 Pro myself?

Graphical programming is supported, but full SDK access is not. You need the Go2 EDU for secondary development.

Is the Lite3 Pro suitable for beginners?

It can be used by beginners, but its value lies in ROS and SDK access. If you only want ready-made tricks, the Go2 Air is simpler.

Can these robot dogs be used in the rain?

Water resistance is not a headline feature on these three models. For regular outdoor use in wet conditions, choose an IP-rated industrial platform.
